Denise, the leader of the Communist Resistance and René's childhood love from Nancy, is now set on marrying him. At the same time, Edith and the servant girls find themselves in a tricky situation as they try to clarify to the Lieutenant why his small tank has collided with the public restroom, which unexpectedly earns them Gruber's sympathy. René struggles to break the news to Edith that he plans to wed Denise, especially since Monsieur Alphonse has proposed to her. Meanwhile, Yvette is torn as she contemplates revealing to Edith that René intends to marry her instead.
