While incarcerated, Cosimo urges Contessina to bribe a Signoria member to sway votes in his direction. Meanwhile, Albizzi schemes to poison Cosimo’s meals with the help of a corrupt prison guard. In a desperate bid to save him, Contessina works to secure his exile instead of facing the death sentence.
