In 1818 India, Lt Col Richard Sharpe and Sergeant Major Patrick Harper traverse the country guarding the elegant Marie-Angelique Bonnet en route to her betrothed. Crossing lawless territory, they encounter a shambolic Crown outfit led by the youthful Beauclare. During dinner with their hosts, the camp is ambushed by the infamous Chitu and his brigands. Surveying the wreckage, Sharpe realizes he’s the sole officer capable of shepherding the wagon train to the next garrison. Unbeknownst to him, this rescue mission plunges him headlong into a sprawling opium-smuggling conspiracy.
