Ilia Livykou

Ilia Livykou (1919–2002) was a celebrated Greek actress, best remembered for her enduring partnership with the legendary Vassilis Logothetidis. Born Amalia Hatzaki in Heraklion in 1919, she initially pursued athletics, excelling in javelin throwing, and later studied law in Athens. Her path soon shifted to the stage, where she earned distinction at the Royal Theatre’s Dramatic School.

Livykou made her theatrical debut in 1947 and, from 1948 until 1960, became a defining presence alongside Logothetidis, captivating audiences with her versatility and charm. Her transition to cinema began with the Alekos Sakellarios comedy *The Germans Are Coming* (1948), launching a film career that showcased her comedic and dramatic range.

Beyond her professional achievements, Livykou’s personal life was marked by profound sorrow. In 1985, she lost her daughter Eva—one of three children from her first marriage to Agissilaos Kozyris—to a brain tumor. She spent her final years in Athens, passing away on 6 September 2002. She was laid to rest in Kaisariani, beside her beloved daughter, a testament to a life interwoven with both artistic triumph and personal loss. Her legacy endures as a cornerstone of mid-century Greek theater and cinema.
