Gianfrancesco Guarnieri

Gianfrancesco Sigfrido Benedetto Marinenghi de Guarnieri was born on August 6, 1934, in Milan, Italy, and later became a naturalized Brazilian citizen. He passed away on July 22, 2006, in São Paulo, Brazil. A multifaceted artist, Guarnieri excelled as an actor, director, lyricist, poet, and playwright, leaving an indelible mark on Brazilian performing arts.

His career was deeply intertwined with the Theater of Arena in São Paulo, where he became a central figure in the movement to create socially conscious, politically engaged theater during a transformative period in Brazil's cultural history. Guarnieri's most celebrated work, the play *They Don't Wear Black Tie*, stands as a landmark of Brazilian dramaturgy, exploring themes of working-class struggles and political resistance.
