Mick Hucknall

Michael James Hucknall, born on June 8, 1960, in Manchester, England, is a celebrated singer and songwriter best known as the driving force behind the pop-soul band Simply Red. Rising to prominence in the 1980s, Hucknall led the band through a remarkable 25-year journey, during which they sold over 50 million albums globally. His vocal prowess has earned him accolades, with Australian music publication Rhythms hailing him as "one of the truly great blue-eyed soul singers," and Q magazine recognizing him for possessing "the most prodigious voice this side of Motown."

Raised in Denton, Hucknall's early life was marked by his mother's departure when he was just three years old. This personal turmoil inspired him to pen "Holding Back the Years," which became one of Simply Red's signature tracks. His musical journey began in the late 1970s with the band Frantic Elevators, which released several singles, including an early version of his later hit.
