İzzet Günay
**İzzet Günay** (born August 21, 1934) stands as one of Turkey’s most enduring and beloved screen and stage performers, with a career spanning over six decades and more than 100 film appearances.
Following his education at Haydarpaşa High School and Deniz High School, Günay initially worked for the İstanbul Municipal Public Works department and later in the lignite trade. His path shifted when he answered a newspaper casting call, landing a role in Haldun Dormen’s stage production *Kara Ağaçlar Altında*. He continued to build his stage presence in plays such as *Sokak Kızı İrma* and *Pasifik Şarkısı Zafer Madalyası*.
Günay made his film debut in 1959 with *Kırık Plak*, a Kemal Film production where he portrayed Zeki Müren’s driver. After a series of smaller parts, he secured his first leading role in *Varan Bir*. He also briefly pursued classical music. A defining moment came in 1964 when he won the Best Actor award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for his performance in *Ağaçlar Ayakta Ölür*. Günay’s versatile, decades-long career has cemented his status as a pillar of Turkish cinema and theater.
