Ganthimathi, a beloved figure in Tamil cinema, was born in Manamadurai, located in the then Ramanathapuram district of British India, around 1945 or 1946. Her journey into the performing arts began early, with a passion for drama that led her to the silver screen by the tender age of eleven.

Over a career spanning several decades, Ganthimathi carved a niche for herself as a versatile character actress, appearing in over 500 films. She was particularly celebrated for her comedic timing and natural portrayal of maternal and village roles, which endeared her to audiences across generations.
